In Service to the Community

The Dental Assistant Program students also participate in ongoing outreach and human service projects in accordance with the Seattle Vocational Institute Mission.
Their goal is to increase the access of dental care to populations that may otherwise be deprived of basic dental upkeep and maintenance. They provide dental examinations, oral health education and quality dental treatment to local elementary students and developed a varnish program for pre-schoolers. In the past year they provided over 200 sealants, varnishes and other dental services to children.

The students, under the guidance of dental faculty, actively participate in conducting education sessions with the elderly, the blind and the homeless. The clinic also provided much needed, quality dental care to over 400 people in the community, many of whom were low income or qualified for Medicaid.
