Meet the team from the Dental Clinic at SVI
Pollene Speed, DDS, MS

Pollene Speed, DDS, Dental Clinic Director was named by the Consumers' Research Council of America, as one of America's Best Dentists. Dr. Speed was also featured in Seattle Magazine as one of Seattle's Top Dentists. She serves as chair of the admissions committee for the University of Washington School of Dentistry.
Haydon Mar, DDS

Earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Washington, he continued his pursuit of a career in dentistry earning a Doctorate in of Dental Surgery from the U of W. While at the university he worked in the Pediatric Dentistry Department and was an Auxiliary Faculty Member of the University of Washington Dental School. Dr. Mar finds it amazing how his life has come full circle.

"The view from the dental clinic overlooks the place where I grew up as a child, "said Dr. Mar. "Working with culturally and economically diverse students has been filled with many rewards. I believe the professional training in this program gives students invaluable skills and employment. Ultimately, this will give the means to acheive financial stabillity to care for themselves and their families."
Jeanne Nichols, CDA

holds a certificate from Northwest College for Dental Assistants and a bachelor's degree from the University of Washington. She is certified by the American Dental Assistant Association as a Certified Dental Assistant and a Certified Dental Practice Management Administrator.

Ms. Nichols has been with SVI for a year and enjoys the challenges of teaching and working with the students. Her special areas of expertise and interests are teaching Job Skills and Practice Management. Her entire career has been in the field of dentistry. Ms Nichols has worked in private practice as an expanded duty dental assistant, managed the University of Washington Medical Center Hospital Dental Clinic and was Director of Patient Services at the UW School of Dentistry. She also taught Practice Management to senior dental student and conducted staff training at the School of Dentistry.

She feels fortunate to have had many varied and interesting positions she can share with the students. "It is a privilege to work with such a diverse group of students," says Jeanne. "Being a part of their successes has been a wonderful experience for me. This is the most gratifying job I have held."
Lucy Duchemin, CDA

Completed her Dental Assistant education at Kinman Business College, earning a Certificate in Dental Assisting. She attended South Seattle Community College and earned a certificate in Occupational Teacher Education. She is a certified Dental Assistant passing the certification required by the Dental Assistant National Board.

She has been a part of the SVI family since 1996 and is currently an instructor in Dental Clinical I &II. She also manages the Dental Clinic.

"We have a state-of-the-art facility and a passion to reach out to the underserved," said Duchemin. "This would not be possible if it weren't for the support of a great dental team and the entire SVI staff."
Margaret (Peggy) Camden, CDA

Is a graduate of Mt. Aloysius College in Pennsylvania. She also earned Certification in Dental Therapy from the Academy of Health Sciences, Baylor University, Texas. Ms. Camden has been a Certified Dental Assistant for over 25 years and is an active member of the American Dental Assistants Association and the Washington State Dental Assistant Association. She holds a Washington State Vocational Teaching Certificate. Ms Camden has been teaching at SVI for ten years and is Externship Coordinator for the Program.

Ms. Camden believes that teaching is her passion. "I find the challenge and diversity of SVI rewarding and feel fortunate to work in an environment I enjoy while positively influencing the success of our students.

When not in the classroom she enjoys gardening, cooking and the performing arts!
Aileen Speed, SVI Graduate

Is a 1997 graduate of the Dental Assistant Program at Seattle Vocational Institute. She is currently the Office Manager for the Dental Clinic and Front Office Instructor for the Dental Assistant Program. She has been with the Program for four years but has worked as the Office Manager for the last two years.

"I sincerely enjoy working at SVI and being a part of the Dental Assistant Program," said Aileen. "I value the opportunity to give back to the school and program that has given so much to me and my family. My instructors and other staff members helped me to achieve my goals and continue to do so."
