Self-Image

To get in touch with self-image, begin to ask yourself, "How do I feel about myself right now?" at various times throughout the day.  Just begin to notice that kinds of ideas or images you hold in your mind about yourself at different times.  Observe whether you frequently tell yourself negative or critical things.  Once you understand the ways in which you are not loving yourself, begin to regularly tell yourself positive, appreciative, loving things.  Think of specific qualities that you do appreciate about yourself.

I love and appreciate myself as I am now.

Success in Today's Workplace:

Skills-Based & Lifelong Learning

Anyone who hopes for success in today's workplace must be committed to learning job-specific skills and continuing the learning process for a lifetime.

The Department of Labor has defined the skills and competencies to be considered work ready for the jobs of today and tomorrow.

Effective workers can productively use:

bullet

resources.  They know how to use time, money, material, space, and staff.

bullet

interpersonal skills.  They can work on teams, teach others, serve customers, lead, negotiate, and work well with people from culturally diverse backgrounds.

bullet

information.  They can acquire and evaluate data, organize and maintain files, interpret and communicate information, and use computers to process information.

bullet

systems.  They understand social, organizational, and technological systems; they can monitor and correct performance.

bullet

technology.  They can select equipment and tools, apply technology to specific tasks, and maintain and troubleshoot equipment.

Competent workers in the high-performance workplace need:

bullet

basic skills--reading, writing, arithmetic and mathematics, speaking, and listening.

bullet

thinking skills--the ability to learn, reason, think creatively, make decisions, and solve problems.

bullet

personal qualities--individual responsibility, self-esteem, self-management, sociability, and integrity.

These are critical to success in the workplace.  The more you can develop these skills before you go to work, the less training you may need on the job and the greater the value you can bring right away to the company you work with.
