Antonyms  Words with opposite meanings.

AutoCorrect  A Word feature that automatically corrects common spelling errors as you type.

Caps Lock  Keyboard key used to toggle uppercase letters with lowercase letters.

Case  The specific use of upper- or lowercase letters

Computer’s clock  The clock/calendar built into your computer’s main processor to keep track of the current date and time.

Contiguous  Next to or adjacent.

Default*  A standard setting or mode of operation.

Elements  Menus, icons, and other items that are part of an on-screen interface.

Flush  Lined up evenly along an edge.

Full Block  A style of letter in which all lines start flush with the left margin—that is, without a first-line indent.

Hard copy*  A document printed on paper.

Highlight  To apply a colored background to the text to call attention to it.

Horizontal Alignment  The position of text on a line in relation to the left and right margins.

Insertion point*  The flashing vertical line that indicates where the next action will occur in a document on-screen.

Modified Block  A style of letter in which some lines start at the center of the page.

Noncontiguous  Not next to or adjacent.

Nonprinting characters*  Characters such as paragraph marks and tab symbols that are not printed in a document but that can be displayed on the screen.

Paragraph mark (¶)*  A nonprinting character inserted in a document to indicate where a paragraph ends.

Redo*  The command for reversing the Undo command.

Salutation  The line at the start of a letter including the greeting and the recipient’s name, such as Dear Mr. Doe.

Select  Mark text for editing.

Selection bar  A narrow strip along the left margin of a page that automates selection of text.  When the mouse pointer is in the selection area, the cursor changes to an arrow pointing up and to the right.

Smart Tag  A feature of Word designed to let you perform actions within Word that you would normally have to open another application to accomplish.  For example, you can add a person’s name and address to an Outlook contact list using a smart tag in Word.

Synonyms  Words with the same meaning.

Thesaurus*  A listing of words with synonyms and antonyms.

Toggle  A command that turns a particular mode on and off.  Also, to switch back and forth between two modes.

Undo*  The command for reversing a previous action.

Vertical alignment  The position of text in relation to the top and bottom page margins.

View*  The way a document is displayed on screen.

Word wrap*  A feature that causes text to move automatically from the end of one line to the beginning of the next line.
