Adult Basic Education
StudentThis program is designed to enhance basic skill levels in math, reading, writing and critical thinking. The integrated instruction combines lecture, computer assisted learning, small group work, independent learning and implementation of the SCANS competencies. Classes are open entry and available at no cost to the student.

Courses Include: Level 3 and 4 Integrated Basic Skills - Reading, Math and Writing

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course of study in the ABE Program students should be able to:
  1. Acquire/enhance academic math, science, language, social studies skills, and study skills, including time management; note taking; reading for recall and comprehension; Standard English writing skills; verbal discourse; and critical thinking including expression, development, interpretation, analysis and synthesis of ideas.
  2. Develop, practice and acquire habit in coping skills for life balance, particularly as related to academic achievement.
  3. Successfully accede to the next ABE or ESL level and/or test at the entry requirements of all technical vocational programs at SVI.
