CosmetologyThe Cosmetology Program includes training in multi-ethnic hairdressing and cosmetology services. Students must complete 1,650 hours of training through Seattle Vocational Institute in cosmetology for a Certificate of Completion. Students completing the program will be eligible for advanced placement towards an A.A.S. degree from Seattle Central Community College. The core curriculum is designed to prepare students for employment and to take the State Board of Cosmetology Licensing Examination.

The School of Cosmetology is a Pivot Point Member School. Group and individual instruction utilizing Pivot Point techniques and specialized ethnic hair techniques for hair sculpting, scalp care, wet and thermal hair styling, ethnic hair care, hair coloring, permanent waving, chemical relaxing, skin care, make-up, manicures, pedicures and sanitary and safety measures are typical learning experiences. Advanced students gain additional experience involving customer work under the supervision of state licensed instructors in cosmetology. A detailed estimation of costs and tuition is available.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course of study in the Cosmetology Program students should be able to:
  1. Perform all aspects of cosmetology using the Pivot Point method for all types of hair and skin including haircutting, hair styling, hair coloring, permanent waving, chemical relaxing, manicuring and skincare.
  2. Perform salon business such as front desk skills, inventory and loss prevention, resume building and interviewing skills, self-marketing and the basic knowledge of starting one's own salon business.
  3. Demonstrate customer service skills, self-growth and personal development.
  4. Engage in lifelong involvement in the community through the profession of cosmetology.
  5. Possess the necessary skills to pass the Washington State Cosmetology written and practical examination required for Certification to work in the cosmetology field.
Steps To Success
COSMETOLOGIST - SKIN, HAIR & NAILS
Students completing this program will possess skills necessary for employment as a hairstylist, designer, chemical services technician, beauty consultant, personal image consultant, manufacture representative, or development towards salon ownership. The cosmetology industry offers individuals the freedom and flexibility to work part-time or to make cosmetology a lucrative, full-time career.

The School of Cosmetology Salon is open Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m. The Salon is located at 1500 Harvard Avenue, Seattle, WA.  Senior Citizens (65 years and older) receive a discount for all services rendered. A licensed Cosmetology Instructor is on staff during all salon hours.

Admission Policy
Students planning to study for occupations in the School of Cosmetology must meet the admissions requirements of the School of Cosmetology. Students must be 16 years of age and provide proof of a high school diploma or GED and meet the Career Programs Assessment Test (CPAt) score for admission. This is a Veterans Administration (VA) approved program.
